After a long lull of uncertainty, the MTN Fuba League second round will finally get underway this weekend at YMCA, Wandegeya.
Following the recent bomb blasts that rocked Kampala, there had been fears the league, whose first round was as exciting as they come, wouldn’t resume soon. But the sport’s governing body, Fuba, yesterday said action would roll off on Sunday at the YMCA court. “We sincerely apologise for the delay but it was beyond us,” Fuba technical committee member Donan Byabazaire wrote to club officials after releasing the fixtures yesterday.
Beefed up security
Fuba vice-president Bob Buga said security will be beefed up for the games. “Please don’t feel offended if you are subjected to security checks, they are for the good of everyone,” he said.
Men’s topflight table leaders Falcons will hit the court first against Kampala International University (KIU) Titans.
Having finished the first round topping the standings with 21 points from 11 games, Falcons are determined to start off from where they left. “If we keep up the momentum, I believe we’ll maintain that spot as a cushion for the play-offs,” Falcons technical director Sam Obol told Daily Monitor yesterday.
“We are ready for any game.” Falcons were beaten at the semi-final stage by eventual champions Warriors last year but massive recruitments have ensured they mount another challenge this season. Second-placed DMark Power and UCU Canons are on level points with Falcons while Warriors are fourth.
