KENYA : All but Olumasi in camp for Cairo duty

Mildred Olumasi, a student of Union University in USA is the only player yet to report at the national girls’ Under-18 team residential training camp in Mombasa.

Coach Philip Onyango said on Sunday that Mildred is to arrive in the country today and join the rest of the players on Tuesday.

Onyango said arrival of on two Buruburu High School players- Melisa Akinyi, daughter of former Harambee Stars defender, John “Bobby” Ogolla and Mary Atieno on Saturday was a morale booster to the team.

The team is in Mombasa to train and acclimatise in readiness for this year’s Africa girls’ Under-18 basketball championship to be held in Cairo, Egypt from July 29 to August 6.

“I am happy that the two Buruburu players have reported to the camp as their presence is a booster to other members of the squad,” Onyango said.

During last year’s championship held in Tunisia, the Kenya ladies team finished sixth position. Onyango said the players are are currently working on offensive, defensive and tactical approach of the game.
