Miracle 73-79 Warriors
St. Michael 74-139 Power
Women: A1 49-34 Stormers
After flirting with unwanted history for months, Kyambogo Warriors booked their place in this year’s MTN-Fuba League play-offs with an authoritative 79-73 victory over Miracle Eagles on Sunday night.
Knowing that they could have joined Nkumba Marines (2007) as the only champions not to make the postseason, Warriors almost reduced the contest into a procession at a packed YMCA court, Wandegeya.
The bruising physical game saw seven players, including Miracle’s Stephen Omony, ejected for committing five fouls. His exit deep into the four quarter all but ended their hopes after they played catch up throughout despite the two-time MVP scoring a game-high 21 points.
The champions established a 22-18 lead after the first quarter, blew cold in the second which ended 16-all, nicked the third 15-10 to claim a nine-point gap heading into the penultimate period. “I think we won the game due to maturity and good defence,” Gad Eteu, the Warriors coach told Daily Monitor.
In the early game, DMark Power re-wrote history by posting the highest score in the league by trouncing St. Michael 139-74.
