After staging basketball clinics in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) is looking forward to host Taifa Cup.
The tournament is still uncertain as the body is running short of funds to meet associated expenditures.
TBF’s assistant secretary Michael Maluwe said should they secure sponsorship for the event, they are expected to stage the tourney in Dar es Salaam.
Morogoro would be the second option in case the logistics would not allow for Dar es Salaam.
The TBF official says hosting the event would involve a significant amount of funds with projected estimates falling around 50m/-.
Like most of the minority sports bodies with the exception of tennis and cricket, TBF has no source of funds outside the sponsorship bracket to run its affairs.
Maluwe said the tournament would be shelved if no sponsorship is in sight while he yelled for firms and individuals to chip in and save the event.
He ushered praise to sponsors who backed the just ended basketball clinics in Morogoro and Dar es Salaam while begging for other firms to join hands in the promotion of basketball.
Basketball has been one of the minority games whose popularity is increasingly gaining tempo in the country, especially by students in schools.
