Dar es Salaam. Heroes and Shaaban Roberts put in spirited displays to claim the School Basketball League titles in thrilling finals at the National Indoor Stadium yesterday.
Heroes were crowned champions in the boys’ category after edging out titleholders Ahmes 72-68 while Shaaban Roberts’ girls rallied to beat Ahmes 50-42 at the same venue.
Mussa Chacha, who posed a constant menace to Shaaban Roberts shot blockers, was instrumental in his team’s victory.
Chacha emerged the best defender of the tournament while Yasmin Nagibu of Ahmes won a similar title in the girls category.
Mzizima Boys laboured to earn a 92- 82 win over Jitegemee in the third place play while Zanaki defeated Heroes 33-23 to finish third in the girls category.
Besides winning the third place, Mzizima girls and Azania boys emerged the most disciplined sides of the tournament.
Fifteen teams took part in the tournament held in a round robin format. Out of them, six were girls teams.
Coordinator of the school tournament’s Manase Zablon said he was impressed with all teams’ performances.
Zablon urged the players to keep on training so that they get promoted to the Premier League next season.
