UGANDA : Falcons lose 3rd slot to Warriors

By Usher Komugisha

FALCONS lost their third position on the table standings to the Kyambogo Warriors on Saturday evening after losing to the KIU Titans 61-57 in a closely contested game.

This is the side’s fifth loss which ties them in third position with the Warriors who also amassed five losses in the regular season.

According to the FIBA rules and regulations in the area of classification, “If there are two teams in the classification with equal points, the results of the game(s) between the two teams involved will be used to determine the placing. If the points are the same then the goal average of both teams against all the other teams in the group in both rounds will be used.”

Falcons defeated Warriors by one point in the first round (67-66) and the Warriors defeated Falcons by two points (78-76) in second round which means that the Warriors move to third position and the Falcons slip to fourth.

This change on the table standings implies that Power will now face the Falcons while the Kyambogo Warriors will meet the UCU Canons on a best-of-five series in the play-offs.

“We made a few mistakes that cost us the game for example we missed six points on the free throw line yet we lost by three points so we could have won this game,” said a disappointed Falcons’ player, Richard Osano.
