CENTRE Robert Léon picked up the slack, scoring a staggering 51 points as men’s defending champions Baya got their Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup title defence on track.
Coach Michel Malbrook’s team earned a 10-point – 98-88 – margin victory over Anse Boileau-based Angels to progress to the quarterfinal of this year’s competition, where they will meet either Mont Fleuri Dawgz or AAP Brothers on Sunday at the Palais des Sports.
If they win their quarterfinal match, Baya, drawn in the second half of the draw, will play the winners of the Razors/MBU Rockers clash.
Razors dispatched RC Dynamics 72-64 to set up a quarterfinal showdown with MBU Rockers, who walked over.
In the top half, league division one champions PLS Hawks, who beat Juniors 84-58, are in the semifinal and await the winners of the Cascade Bullets/Premium Cobras clash. The Bullets knocked out second division winners Drifters 90-62.
In the women’s competition, Anse Etoile Stars are in the semifinal after beating Cadettes 110-13.
They will meet league champions HotShots, who are aiming for a second consecutive league and cup double.
Mont Fleuri, who have won a bye straight into the semis, await the winners of tomorrow’s match between Juniors and RA Sisters.
