KENYA : Reigning champs Eagle Wings destroy Mennonites to shoot to the top of league


Reigning women national champions Eagle Wings torched Mennonites 94-32 to move tops in a premier league tie at the Nairobi Railways Club.
Wings maintained their 100 percent unbeaten run with a virtuoso show that saw them take an early 28-10 first quarter lead on the strength of a strong Janet Okoth showing.
In the second, Evalyne Kedogo shot two three pointers and Linda Nyikuli and Eunice Ouma bagged two more as Wings took a 30-13 margin before taking the break.

After resumption, the regional champions, who are shaping up for a continental duel in a few weeks reduced the tempo taking the third quarter 18-6 and the last 18-3.
An upbeat Okoth pepped the winners with 21, her older sister Angela made 16 while Silalei Agalo sunk another 12 for Wings who now have 28 points from 14 games.
Mennonites have won five of their 16 games now are on 21 points. They had little to offer and even though Evalyne Itaabu and Sarah Anyango shot 10 each.
Agina Wesonga revealed Zone Five champions Eagle Wings needs a mimimum of kshs 4 million to participate in the Fiba Africa club championships for women slated for Tunis, Tunisia next month.

The team officials have organised a funds drive at Railways Club on Friday October 30 at 4 pm to help them raise amount.

"With the tournament only a few weeks to go, we are making a passionate appeal from fans to come and help us raise the money. We have also contacted corporates and are still awaiting their response." he said.

The championships will bring together continental giants from the seven playing zones in Africa. Nigeria's First Bank are the defending champions.

In the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) play off semi-finals, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) dismissed Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 3-1 to reach the finals.

Rusells Owili made 17 points and Kevin Otieno added 12 tin this win. Mika Opinya scored 20 and Kisumba Guytoh managed 15 for the students. KAA will now meet Upper Hill in the finals starting November 6.
