She has won more than two MTN-Fuba League championships but Flavia Oketcho remains as committed and hungry as a debutante.
No wonder when she makes a return to KCC Leopards against Magic Stormers today, her team will start to dream about winning a third championship. “Flavia is a big inspiration and her teammates rally behind her. It’s a big deal to have her back,” KCC coach Timothy Odeke said. “She is so instrumental and will solve our problems at the point guard position where we have been having slight trouble.”
KCC, then defending, lost to A1 Challenge in last year’s semifinals by a whisker while Oketcho embarked on her maternity leave in United Kingdom. “I think with her around, we can go one step better,” an elated Odeke added.
Oketcho, who guided KCC to the title in 2009 on her debut season with the side, has previously told this newspaper that she often plays ‘basic basketball’ to stay fit and it’s now the lasting power to be tested. The fast-dribbling star has also won titles with UCU Lady Canons and women record champions Lady Bucks.
In the men’s topflight division, UCU Canons face Nkumba Marines. Meanwhile, Fuba will hold their elective general assembly at Kati Kati, Lugogo tomorrow.
