Strathmore University basketball teams have a tricky outing in their Basketball Premier League matches when they face unpredictable hosts at the Kakamega Police Canteen this weekend.
After surrendering their unbeaten run to champions Kenya Ports Authority (52-36) in Nairobi last weekend, Strathmore’s women face Western Delight at 10am on Saturday.
Hosts Delight have proved capable of shaking giants, having beaten KPA 34-32 at their backyard recently.
The students, who had won nine matches in a row before losing to KPA, will rely on Melisa Akinyi and Faith Owich to register an away victory and remain at the top of the table standings.
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) host Strathmore in a men’s first leg tie expected to be tight.
MMUST lost two matches in a row during their last tour of Nairobi and will use the home court advantage to avenge the defeat.
Led by Lugasi brothers Fred and Alex, MMUST crashed 76-67 to Mennonites before Thunder beat them 89-64.
Strathmore also went down 64-52 to Tigers of the USIU-A. Coach Tony Ochieng will need to inject new ideas to the Strathmore outfit which has started fading out.
Tomorrow, Eagle Wings will also be in Kakamega to take on Delight. Wings, who lie second on the standing with 17 points, will be seeking a win to dislodge Strathmore from the top of the table.
In Nairobi, five matches have been switched to World Hope Centre in Lavington today from 10am but action at Nyayo National
Stadium resumes on Sunday.
Kenya Commercial Bank Lions have a tight match against Blazers at 2pm today while Tigers meet Kenya College of Accountancy
University (KCA-U).
The bankers, with 14 points from five wins and four losses, must find a winning strategy after Thunder edged them out 67-66.
Co-op Bank will be out to improve on their placing in the women’s championship when they meet Mennonites while Flames of the
USIU-A face KCA-U and Kenya Airports Authority entertain Trail Blazers.
