There is something about DMark Power and performing below par in Sunday games, which they themselves just quite understand. The remedy seems to be far now but Power coach Bernice Ankunda didn’t care about the ugly nature of the 71-66 victory over KIU Titans in the MTN-Fuba League. Under lights, KIU, with only seven players, were quicker off the blocks to seize the first period 27-14 sending the crowd wild.
Silence filled YMCA court when the champions resumed normal service to control the final three quarters 26-17, 15-12 and 16-10. It was wretched performance which only had Richard Balemwa (13) and Jimmy Enabu stand out for Power offensively. Centre Robert Mubiru could have stolen the show with nine points and seven boards. Ankunda held his hand on his left cheek for most of the game as his side only shot 20 of 55 from the field and six of 27 from downtown.
Error-strewn game
Abraham Juma (14), Joshua Etalu (14), Moses Olobo (13) and Brian Wati (12) still don’t know how they ended up on the losing side in an error-strewn game where KIU committed 39 turnovers. The champions’ moved level with Miracle Eagles for the best start record in the league at 6-1 whereas KIU fell to 2-4. Umpire Baker Kyambadde took his share of the limelight for stopping the game when a section of Power fans abused him.
