THE Kyambogo Warriors are falling apart and their title defence is looking weaker each passing day – or to be precise each passing match.

The latest perhaps gave the biggest indication yet that the Warriors may be incapable of defending the men’s FUBA championship let alone get in the playoffs.

Kyambogo suffered a 78-71 defeat to the Nkumba Marines on Sunday at YMCA, a result that was unexpected even by the Warriors’ current poor standards.

The consistent Phillip Wakimwero sunk a team-high 19 points for the Marines with Chris Omanye, the prodigious Wilson Otweyo and Alex Mugoya also managing double figures. Mugoya bagged a rare double-double, grabbing 11 points and 11 assists, while Omanye scored 15 and Otweyo 13.

Ronnie Kasewu was at his irrepressible best, netting a game-high 26 points for the Warriors but the guard – and Martin Okwako and Jude Ochen, who scored 13 and 10 points respectively – could not stave off the loss.

The defeat to Timothy Odeke’s Nkumba also increased the pressure on his Warriors counterpart Gad Eteu.

Asked what was going wrong with his star-studded line-up, Eteu breathed a huge sigh and admitted that they were struggling.
