SEYCHELLES : Men’s division two - Drifters hope to wrap up championship

On Tuesday at Victoria Gymnasium, Drifters earned their 10th win of the men’s division two championship, comfortably beating Juniors 67-48.

Coached by Denis Dodin, the Anse Boileau-based team have lost just two matches in 12 outings and they sit at the top of the eight-team standings with 22 points.

“We can put a hand on the trophy this coming Saturday if we beat Anse Etoile,” coach Dodin told Sports Nation.
“But we have to be alert against the same team who did us a big favour by beating our main rivals Pointe Larue Falcons last week. Sunday’s game promises to be a close one.”

It remains to be seen if young lads like Arnaud Arissol, Frank Seth, Ervin Agathine, Henry Agathine and Trevor Toussaint can hold their nerve at crunch time to get victories in their remaining two games and earn promotion to play in the big league next year.

Pointe Larue Falcons are on 20 points after nine wins and three defeats – one of those by a walkover.
Falcons got themselves back in the title hunt with a win over Drifters, but they lost their heads with two consecutive defeats against Anse Etoile and Praslin Warriors last week.

The Falcons’ final two games are against Juniors and AAP Brothers.
Anse Etoile are in action today against AAP Brothers, and a win will put them in the right frame of mind for Sunday’s encounter with Drifters.

Before taking to the court this afternoon, Luciano Moumou and company have eight wins and two losses for 19 points. They also lost a match by a walkover.

Juniors, Beau Vallon Heat, LMS Youth, Praslin Warriors and AAP Brothers also play in the bottom division.
Although their name still appears in the standings, LMS Youth have been kicked out of the competition after missing two matches.
