Champions Kenya Commercial Bank Lions completed their regular season matches with a convincing 69-58 win over Posta at the Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium.

The victory saw KCB Lions finish the competition in second position with 28 points from 12 wins and four loses. Kenya Ports Authority were assured of the first position following their easy 92-52 win over visiting International Christian Centre in Mombasa on Sunday.

As as result, KCB Lions will open their campaign to win the league title a record of three-times in a row against seventh rated Tigers of the United States International University or their traditional rivals Co-operative Bank in the play-offs. KPA topped the final table standings with 30 points from 13 wins and only two loses.

The newly introduced eight-team play-offs will see KPA use the home-court advantage against Lomboritz in Mombasa. The four top teams will benefit from the home-court advantage in the opening two matches of the post-season play-offs. The first round will only have two matches with the winners qualifying for the best-of-three series semi-finals.

KCB Lions had little to worry in their last fixture against Ronnie Owino’s Posta with Tobias Onyango’s game-high 32 points, the main highlight of the match in which he combined with Yoni Wanambiro as Lions raced a 17-10 first quarter lead. The bankers were up 14-11 in the second quarter and kept their opponents out of the game leading 31-21 at the breather.

Posta, who scooped the overall fourth position with 24 points, had Franklin Delano pouring in seven points while Joshua Orwe also hit the target to take home the third quarter 18-14.
