Hope of Kenya Ports Authority, KPA of making their first semi-final cut of the FIBA Africa Champions was dashed Friday by defending champion, Desportivo basketball club of Mozambique.
The KPA ladies who played one of their best game in the competition led the defending champion through the beginning of the last quarter by 41-37 points but lack of zeal and taste of success rob them off a semi-final placement when they surrender their leadership to the Despoirtivo side who is gunning for a record third straight title.
KPA lost the first quarter narrowly by 13-12 points but came back forcefully in the second and third quarters winning at 17-15 and 12-09 points respectively.
Their effort was however, reduced to nothing by the Valerdina Manhonga led Desportivo side in the last quarter as the Mozambican mounted continuous pressure on the Kenyans which paid off with a massive 29-10 points win for them for a final score-line of 66-51 points.
Joining Manhonga on the scorer sheet for the defending champion are Leia Dongue with 14 points, 6 rebounbds and Anabela Cossa with 11 points.
Desportivo will now await the winner between Club Sportif de Abidjan, CSA and Abidjan Basket Club, ABC.
