Andrew Katushabe produced a star performance to help Ssaku SS clinch their second trophy in a year, at the 2009 Sprite Secondary Schools Basketball that ended in Lira yesterday.
Trailing Old Kampala 50-51 with five seconds to go, Andrew drew a foul and buried all the resultant shots to end the championship in style.
The thrilling final saw the youngster score a game high 16 points. Old Kampala’s Prema Lwanga was named the Most Valuable Player in the boys’ category and Ssaku’s Christine Mbabazi took the ladies’ gong. The Luwero school also won the National Schools Basketball Championships in Majjansi, Tororo in March this year.
Meanwhile, Buddo SS retained the girls’ trophy after beating Mary Hill High School 56-26 in the final. Buddo’s Stella Ayella scored a game high 22 points and team mate Christine Mbabazi added 18. Mary Hill’s Bridget Natukunda scored her school’s high of 18 points. The tournament was sponsored by Century Bottling Company.
