SEYCHELLES : Leaders Baya reach century mark in fifth win

Former men’s division one champions Baya reached the century mark in a lopsided 113-53 victory over lowly Razors at the NSC Multipurpose hall on Saturday – the same day the Rockers and the Hawks garnered big wins.

With Jean-Paul ‘JP’ Camille hitting four treys for 12 of his game-leading 36 points, Baya got six more shots from downtown as they steamrollered coach-less Razors, who had three players scoring in double digits – Ted Jumaye 15 points, captain Serge Radegonde 14 and Alex Baron 10.
With Dave Roseline getting 13 points, and Giovanni Laval and Hendricks Denis adding 12 apiece, coach Michel Malbrook’s Baya were in total control, winning all four quarters 35-12, 24-9, 28-14 and 26-18 for their fifth win on the trot to go top in the 10-team standings on basket difference.
Baya and Premium Cobras are locked on 10 points after five wins in as many matches, but the former top the league with a basket difference of +128 compared to the latter’s +95.

One of the two teams will lose their invincibility when they clash this coming Saturday in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter.
Coach Guy Hall’s Cobras have the edge over Baya this year after beating them in a near blow-out 90-73 victory to reclaim the men’s Curtain-raiser title on Sunday February 20.
Playmaker Nigel Sinon finished with a game-high 32 points, Pascal Bibi added 20 and Brian Morel got 18 as MBU Rockers finished three points short of the century mark in a 97-64 win over Drifters.

This was fifth-placed Rockers’ third win in five games for eight points, while last year’s second division winners Drifters are finding the going tough in the top flight with a fifth successive defeat, despite Arnaud Arissol netting 24 points.
After a shocking 61-63 loss to Mont Fleuri Dawgz in their third league outing on April 2, PLS Hawks rebounded to victory against RC Dynamics, beating them by 26 points – 86-60.
Although RC Dynamics held the Hawks at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, they could not sustain the pressure, losing the remaining three quarters 15-23, 17-26 and 15-26.
Jean-Paul Desaubin finished with 22 points for RC Dynamics who have lost for the fourth time in six matches, while Nigerian Alao Solomon, who had 29 points, led three teammates – point guard Bernard Bristol 17 points, veteran captain Jim Domingue 16 and Ron Estico 10 – in double figures.

With a match in hand on fellow big guns Premium Cobras and Baya, defending champions PLS Hawks have three wins in four games for seven points.
