UGANDA : Warriors snatch Enabu from UCU

Kyambogo Warriors have secured the signature of Ivan Enabu after the point guard left UCU Canons on Tuesday. Warriors sent a loud signal of intent in the transfer season that has had Miracle Eagles grab the headlines by securing Norman Blick from champions DMark Power.

Enabu’s move from the university side was almost inevitable since he completed his undergraduate studies at Mukono last year. “I am honoured to join Warriors. It will be interesting to play with everyone there and I am looking forward to a good season,” Enabu confirmed to Daily Monitor yesterday. His new club tied him down to a two-year deal though financial details were unavailable.

The move ends a period of relative uncertainty for the 2005 Zone V Nations Championships Most Valuable Player (MVP). Enabu nearly joined Falcons before the start of last season for a reported Shs50m but the deal fell through.

Champions in 2009, Warriors lost to Power 4-3 in a thrilling final series last season, a result many analysts tag to the lack of a natural ball handler. Warriors patron Ambrose Tashobya moved to rectify the shortfall by signing Enabu, arguably the most entertaining player in Uganda.

Throughout the play-offs, former Warriors coach Gad Eteu tried out Jude Ochen, Ronnie Kasewu and Tanzanian Abdulahi Ramadhan in the ball-handling role with none of the three nailing the responsibility fully. Ramadhan’s contract was not renewed. Speculation is rife that Ivan’s younger brother, Jimmy, might join him at Warriors soon though Falcons and Power are also luring the shooting guard.
