Dar es Salaam’s men basketball team today travels to Nairobi for the Inter-city championship albeit without their women side.Cash-strapped Dar es Salaam Basketball (BD) disclosed that they failed to raise enough money to field two teams.
Speaking during a news conference yesterday, BD president Simon Msofe said their efforts to send two teams hit the brick wall, thus the “Dream Team” will be the only representatives.
“Our intention was to be represented by two teams, but our efforts to raise funds were to no avail, so we had no option but to send one team,” he said.
The five-day tournament, which gets underway tomorrow, will see seven cities battle it out.
The cities are: Mombasa, Tanga, Kampala, Dar es Salaam, Juba, Mogadishu, Arusha and host Nairobi.
The “Dream Team” squad leaving for Nairobi today comprises: Murshid Mudricat, Tony Jeikanga, Gilbert Batungi, George Tarimo, Sylivian Maige, Mohamed Yusuf, Cray Bony and Samwel Sige.
Others are: Adam Jegame, Frank Kusiga, Francis Mlewa, Frank Mwemezi, Alpha Kisusi and Amos Mgwassa.
The team will be under the tutelage of coaches Bahati Mgunda and Dassy Makula. (By Brown Msyani)
