The captain of the mens basketball team which leaves on Friday to represent Bulawayo Metropolitan Province in an Inter-Provincial tournament in Mutare has expressed optimism they will emerge as the best. Muchengeti Hamandishe told NewsDay Sport that they were confident they would perform well in the competition that ends on Sunday. Our preparations have been going on very well. We are confident that we will come back with the championship to Bulawayo, he said.

He said the team had enough depth as players like Mpumelelo Hlabangana, Derick Chiradza, Tawanda Corbi Mudzudza have been playing together for close to a decade. I have played with Hlabangana, Chiradza, Mudzudza and Mundandanda for 10 years. We have enough experience and youth in the team, he said. Hamandishe said another factor which would assist them in the quest to become champions is the competitiveness of the Bulawayo Basketball League.

Other players who are expected to do the province proud are Garikayi Gumbo, Clayton Moyo, Michael Zvoushe, Garth Hussey, Kevin Mayengere, Benjamin Jani and Sebastian Ndlovu.
The womens team comprises Sheila Rouncivell, Tahana Dube, Charmaine Chirinda, Faith Moyo and Geraldine Chibonda who have been picked up from Giants. Yolanda Matayataya, Nobukhosi Ndlovu and Orissa Ndebele have made it into the team from Lakers Seniors.

Two players from Highlanders who are part of the team are Seldom Woods and Ancilla Chivero.
