In the meantime, club officials are have urged KBF to ensure that the money paid by clubs should be solely used for running the league and in a professional way. A joint letter to KBF obtained by sportsnewsarena.com asked the league committee to work out a budget for the entire league which include payment of venue, referees, crowd entertainment, security, match balls and bibs (in case of team color clash). They suggested a cash reward for teams and individuals who have been exceptional during the season instead of trophies and medals.
Referees have been on the receiving end because of not being paid their dues. Only a gew die-hard referees officiate for free. “Gate collection monies should not be a measure of how much the refs should be paid because they( refs) are not responsible for the spectator turn out,” the statement reads. The officials have also urged KBF to look for sponsors for the league and major tournaments. Each team pays Sh38,000 league fees.
