UCU Lady Canons and KIU Rangers warmed up for their MTN-Fuba semi-final play-off clash in five days time with comfortable victories over feeble opposition on Friday night at YMCA court.

After watching KIU Rangers rout newcomers Magic Stormers 73-22, women’s division leaders were even more ruthless in their 98-38 decimation of Makerere Sparks. Mercy Etyang’s 16 points and seven rebounds gave KIU coach Nimrod Kaboha something to smile about following the loss to UCU on Tuesday. The university team coasted through the four periods 20-8, 20-2, 12-4 and 21-8 respectively.

Five players on the Stormers’ Rota didn’t trouble the scorer. Florence Nanyonga (15), Judith Nansobya (11) and Susan Amito (11) could hardly mind such a stat as they accompanied Etyang.

In the late game, Lorraine Akinyi (24) and Maureen Amoding (22) combined for 46 points as UCU stretched their season record to 19-1. Cilia Asila (15), Lean Nalunkuma (14) and Annastcia Njeri (14-5) also reached double figures for coach Mande Juruni’s side. The Ndejje University Angels-Miracle Eagles game didn’t take off as the former held a graduation ceremony on Friday.

Falcons battle KIU
In today’s biggest attraction, Mountain Dew Falcons face gritty KIU Titans in preparation for their play-off game against UCU Canons. Kenyan coach Smarts Olumbo returned to Falcons last Sunday and his presence could galvanise the six-time champions, who reportedly have some internal problems with some players complaining about unpaid wages.
