The infancy of the MTN-Fuba National Basketball League notwithstanding, the line up for the post season is looking all too familiar as the usual campaigners continue to dominate.
Kyambogo Warriors and Mogas Falcons – two of the sides widely expected to make the post season – emerged victorious against KIU (70-65) and Miracle Eagles (105-93) respectively at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Friday night. Joshua Etalu scored 22 points to steer Warriors to a fourth straight victory against KIU who previously sail through the regular season in the past two seasons.
With the game tied at 64-64 late in the fourth quarter, KIU’s Orom Makmot (19 points) quickly turned from hero to villain failing to sink three free throws following a foul on him.
Thereafter, Etalu controlled his nerves better with two free throws and a three-pointer which ended the contest.
Earlier, Solomon Ssali’s game-high 30 points were insufficient as Rubaga-based Miracles - who signed eight players during the off-season and appointed former MVP Sam Obol as coach - were again exposed by six-time champions Falcons.
Miracles lost almost every rebound and failed to stop Shs72m signing Steven Omony (29 points) when they needed desperately needed to steal possession.
Eric and Henry Malinga added 18 and 16 points respectively as Falcons cruised to a fourth win in five outings. Top flight debutants Ndejje University Angels face Warriors at YMCA today.
