KBC vs Ferwaba
Debutants, Kigali Basketball Club are just a win away from being crowned the 2010 national basketball league champions. The run-away champs host the federation’s select side today at Amahoro indoor stadium courts. The game starts at 11 o’clock.
Being the last game of championship and the title decider, today’s clash is expected to be a thriller in all ways as both teams need a win for different reasons.
While KBC will be going out all guns blazing, knowing a win will hand them the title on their first attempt, the federation’s U-18 select side will have other ideas as they seek to end the season on a real high.
Ferwaba‘s U-18 team have won all their last three games in a row. The select is using the championships to prepare for next month’s Afro-basketball U-18 Kagame Cup tournament.
KBC are in second place with 28 points in 15 games and have scored 1152 points along the way against 979 points. But they will be hoping to avoid any slip up against the youngsters, who thumped UGB 71- 53 last weekend.
Defending champions, APR top the table with 29 points in 16 games having scored 1156 points and conceded 811.
Going into today’s do-or -die clash, KBC head coach Pierre Gategabondo told Times Sport yesterday in a phone interview that his team is not prepared to let the championship medal slip through their hands.
“We know our opponents are a young and strong team that has won all their last three games but we have the desire to be crowned champions, therefore it’s a must win (game) for us,” Gategabondo stressed.
