FIBA AFRICA : African officials appointed for 2010 World Competitions

6 African referees and 2 technical Commissioners have been appointed by FIBA for officiating 2010 World competition.

All the officials have been named after their good performance during world and continental competitions.

The referees included Annie Joyce Muchenu (FIBA World Championship U17 for women), Cissé Ben Ali (FIBA World Championship U17 for men), Charles Foster and Moussa Touré (FIBA World Championship for women) and Vitalis Gode, Julio Carlos and Samir Abaakil (FIBA World Championship for men).

Among the six referees, there is only one female, Ms Annie Joyce Muchenu (Zimbabwe, 34 years old) who is appointed for the 1st edition of FIBA World Championship U17 for women (France, 16th – 25th July 2010). Mali (2009 U16 Africa champion) will represent the africa continent at the event.

Ms Annie Joyce Muchenu, former player of national team of Zimbabwe (2007 All African Games) who became an international referee in 2008, will take part in her first world event after her good appearance during the Afrobasket women (Madagascar, October 2009).

Cissé Ben Ali (Côte d’ivoire, 42 years old) was named for the 1st edition of FIBA World Championship U17 for men to be held from 2nd to 11th July 2010 in Germany with Egypt (2009 U16 Africa champion) as Africa representative. Cissé Ben Ali officiated many continental competitions included 3 FIBA Africa Championships (2003, 2005 et 2007), 2003 All African Games and 4 Champions Cups (2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009). He also officiated the final games of Africa events (clubs cup for men 2007 and 2008 as well as Champions cup for women 2008). Cissé Ben Ali will meet at this competition the international referee from Greece, Elias Koromilas who officiated the final game of Afrobasket 2009 in Libya.

Anibal Manave (Mozambique) is appointed technical commissioner at the event.

Moussa Ismaila Touré (Mali) and Charles Foster (South Africa) are named for FIBA World Championship to be held from 23rd September to 03rd October 2010 in Czech republic. Moussa Touré who already officiated 3 continental events (Afrobasket 2005, 2003 All African Games and 2006 Afrobasket U18), will take part at his fourth world event after the World Championship for women (2006), World Championship U19 for men (2007) and World Championship U19 for women (2009). Charles Foster who is also a hand basket’s referee, will attend his first world event after officiated 5 African competitions. The President of Competitions’ Commission of FIBA Africa, Abdelrraouf Menjour (Tunisia) is appointed as technical commissioner. Senegal and Mali will represent Africa at this competition.

Three referees, Vitalis Gode (Kenya), Julio Carlos (Angola) and Samir Abaakil (Morocco) have been called up for World Championship for men to be held from 28th august to 12th September 2010 in Turkey. Vitalis Gode, 46 years old, will officiate his third world competition as well as Julio Carlos (38 years old) while Samir Abaakil (40 years old) will attend his second world competition after officiated 2009 World Championship U19 for women.
