IVAN Enabu inspired the UCU Canons to clinch the third place position in the top division of the basketball league after they outwitted Falcons 87-67 at Lugogo Indoor stadium on Saturday.
The sensational point guard dropped 20 points with eight assists as his team outscored the five-time champions in all the four quarters (23-18, 21-16, 22-18 and 21-15).
“It is good we won this game. The boys played well today and they wanted to win,” said Canons coach Nick Natuhereza.
Robert Ogweno and Stephen Mwesigye added 12 and 11 points for UCU while Richard Osano scored a game high 27 points for the Falcons.“It was a good season because we have tried our best to reach where we are today,” said the 2009 Zone V MVP, Osano. The Canons who have never made it to the final despite their many appearances in the semi-final play-offs, had their best performance this season after they pushed the series to game five which they lost to the defending champions, Kyambogo Warriors.
In the ladies category, KCC Leopards also settled for third after defeating KIU Rangers 85-71 with reigning MVP Miriam Hamala scoring 15 points.
Hamala’s team mates Sara Nassuna, Becky Akullo and Carol Nantalo added 11, 11 and 10 points apiece for the Leopards.KIU’s Suzan Amito scored a game high 20 points as Mercy Etyang added 16 but could not help their team to victory.
The second and third division games were walkovers with Rocks and Kings tok third place after their oponents failed to turn up.
