Dar es Salaam. Savio and Jeshi Stars claimed confidence-boosting victories in their Monday’s preseason basketball matches at the Don Bosco courts in Dar es Salaam.
Savio, who are the reigning Mainland champions, staged as big rally to defeat ABC 61- 53 in a well-contested game.
Jeshi Starts, who are also the Mainland titleholders, looked impressive and managed to devour the DB Lady Lioness 61-50 at the same venue.
Led by veteran playmaker Haleluya Kavalambi, ABC began the match with on a high note to consolidate a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Savio came into the contest in the second quarter to easily shove off ABC’s challenge and seal a 31-28 lead.
Pointers Mohamed Yusuf and Jije Makani were instrumental in Savio’s supremacy in the second quarter.
The third quarter saw Savio post 10 points while restricting ABC to eight points.
Savio completed the fourth quarter with 20 points, three points more than their opponents did.
Paschal Nsana fired 13 points and Jije Makani added 12 points to lead Savio to a 61-53 victory over ABC.
Ibrahim Mwinyi notched 11 points for ABC.
As Savio edged out ABC, Jeshi Stars played brilliantly to seal a hard earned 61-50 win over DB Lioness.
Lucy Augustino scored 18 points and Faraja Malaki added 12 points to spearhead their team to victory.
DB Lioness relied on their prolific scorer, Jasmin Bablia, but she scored 14 points only that were not enough to help her side win.
