Lamboritz and University of Nairobi's Terrorists have been relegated from the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Men's Premier League.
And last weekend, the axe fell on Emyba, Friends of Basketball of Kenya (FOB-K) and Africa Nazarene University (ANU), who were dropped from the men’s Division One league.
This means the teams that were only promoted to the men’s Division One category at the start of this season are headed back to the provincial league, following their dismal performance in the topflight basketball league.
Emyba garnered 21 points from 26 matches, while FOB-K collected 24, while ANU got 27.
ANU’s chances of escaping relegation were hampered by the high number of matches they forfeited in the first leg.
Teams spared
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and Trail Blazers, who were promoted to the men’s Premier League, survived relegation.
KBF spared teams in the women’s national league and is looking for two teams to join the women’s league.
"Two women’s teams will be promoted from the Division One (Provincial) league to make the teams add up to 12," said KBF Fixtures Secretary Joseph Amoko.
Teams to be promoted to national leagues will be known this weekend after final playoffs at Nairobi Railway Club.
The play-offs for the national leagues commence this weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Kenya Polytechnic University College teams that were promoted to various categories early this year stand a good chance of battling league leaders in the playoffs. Kenya Poly survived relegation by a whisker and lie bottom above the relegation line in the men’s Division One and women’s Premier League.
Meanwhile, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) won all their league matches at the weekend in Mombasa. KPA men beat Posta 75-57, while their female counterparts thrashed Sprite Storms 50-26.
Lakeside lost their two matches at the weekend, falling 64-48 to Parkland Baptist, and 65-60 to Nairobi Aviation College. Yana were too good for Kenya Polytechnic University, beating them 72-20 in the women’s encounter.
