Over 40 teams from various regions across the country are expected to compete in this year’s National Basketball League (NBL) opening on May 14 at a venue yet to be named.
Dar es Salaam’s Jeshi Stars and JKT are among teams that have so far confirmed their participation in the league, according to Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) assistant secretary general, Michael Maluwe.

In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, Maluwe said the league would take place either in Morogoro, Dar es Salaam or Tanga.“This year’s league will involve leading men and women’s teams from various regions in the country. Each region will field two men teams and two women’s sides,” he said.
He said Morogoro basketball authorities have shown interest in hosting the league, but they have yet to confirm officially.“In the past two days, I tried to contact them severally, but to no avail. If they fail to confirm until early next week, then we’ll shift it to either Tanga or Dar es Salaam,” he said.

Dar es Salaam’s JKT and ABC will compete in the men’s category while Jeshi Stars and JKT Stars will battle it out in the women’s series during the league.Maluwe said the door was still open for other teams interested in competing in the event. He said April 20 was the deadline for confirmation.
