NIGERIA : First Bank To Host Zonal Qualifiers

There are strong indications that the Zone 3 qualifiers for the FIBA-Africa Club Champions for Women will be hosted in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria later this month.

Basketball Timeout gathered that the qualifiers, which will produce the two representatives from the zone for the FIBA-Africa championship, will be bankrolled by First Bank Basketball Club of Lagos, who are the current holders of the cup.

It was gathered that First Bank agreed to take up the bill of the tourney, when the Nigerian-born President of the zone, Muktar Khaleh, failed to get other countries in the zone to host the qualifiers.

Nigeria will be represented by the league’s defending champions First Deepwater Basketball Club and Sunshine Angels Basketball Club of Akure, Ondo State, that will replace the runners up, First Bank Basketball club, the hosts.

Apart from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin Republic, Togo, Liberia and Ghana amongst others are expected to send two representatives each, while the two finalists pick the tickets for the continental battle later in the year.
